JANUARY AND FEBRUARY TRAFFIC UP 5.3% AT CAE
Columbia Metropolitan Airport recorded a 5.3% increase in traffic over the first two months of 2018 as compared to the previous year. Roughly 166,000 total passengers used the airport in January and February, compared to 157,000 for the same months in 2017.
“While there was a small decrease in passengers last year, we actually started seeing growth again in October and November of 2017; largely because our airfares became more competitive last fall. We’re happy to see that trend continue into 2018,” said Anthony Gilmer, Air Service & Marketing Manager.
Capacity at the airport, or the number of seats for sale, also grew 3.5% during the first two months of 2018. The majority of this increase in available seats comes from Delta, who continues to increase aircraft size by replacing regional jets with larger aircraft on flights between Columbia and Atlanta.
“Our airfares have certainly been improving and it’s great to see people taking notice and opting to use our fast & friendly airport. The airlines continue to add larger aircraft with more in-flight amenities like first class seating options and w-fi. We’re happy to see the residents of the Midlands enjoying our improved flight options,” said Mike Gula, Interim Airport Director.
